Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar could be set to miss the African Cup of Nations after suffering an injury in training.
The veteran striker and captain, whose goals the Indomitable Lions rode on at the last AFCON tournament on home soil, reportedly suffered a leg injury that prevented the 31-year-old from training.
According to media reports in the Central African country, the country’s football federation (FECAFOOT) has made the Besiktas striker’s situation known to insiders.
The report says that while FECAFOOT has not made Aboubakar’s injury public, it confirmed that the striker had to shorten his training session on Friday evening due to a serious injury, and the severity on diagnosis could see Aboubakar miss the entire tournament.
Aboubakar scored eight goals at AFCON 2021 to lead hosts Cameroon to bronze, and also shined at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, scoring the winning goal against Brazil in the group stage.
He is Cameroon’s third-highest goalscorer with 37 goals, eight shy of record holder Samuel Eto’o.
