AFCON: Avenge Grammy loss of Nigerian stars, Teni begs Super Eagles

Singer Teniola Apata aka Teni, has urged the Super Eagles of Nigeria to defeat South Africa in Wednesday’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Semi-final encounter against South Africa.

Teni reacted to the loss of some Nigerian artistes to South African singer, Tyla, during the 66th Grammys last night.

Daily Trust had reported how Nigerian quintet; Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Davido, Asake and Olamide were snubbed at the 66th Grammys on Sunday.

Tyla, the only non-Nigerian nominee in the maiden Best African Music Performance category, was given the award.

Reacting in a video shared via Instagram, Teni pleaded with the Super Eagles players to avenge the Grammy loss of their compatriots by defeating South Africa in the semifinal clash in Cote D’Ivoire.

She specifically called on Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and their teammates to aim for a decisive victory over the South African team.

“Grammy there’s a problem. We have many parties. You have killed our groove. South Africa, Tyla’s ‘Water.’ Alright. Osimhen, over to you. Lookman, over to you. South Africa, you will dance Amapiano after your AFCON defeat. You killed my groove. Grammy why?,” she said in a mixture of Yoruba and English.

Some of her followers have taken to the comment section to react:

@olatundejyde: “Make Naija sha nor loose. I fit cry.”

@biggie_poko: “Na only mouth Nigeria get, all of una need oyibo validation so bad, why not have an African award, that way weaken the Grammy, we have a long way to go.”

@momoh_jay: “Really though. This doesn’t even make sense. Again they stole IT from us. But we keep going. Our musicians are our stars. Awards or not. We Adore and respect them. They put our country’s name on the world’s MAP. No award can beat that. And that’s on PERIOD.”

“jenniferiwuh: “Teni really has me laughing and I can’t understand anything she is saying.”

@tomike_a: “over to them boysssssss.”
