At the venue were captivating signboards of what were on display. When a colleague of ours hinted us on a caption he saw, we thought it was one of those normal stories that are perculiar with women, but to our surprise, our visit there was quite revealing in terms of the extent to which some women would go in getting a man to care and do things for them. Going into the premises, a pavilion had this inscription: ‘Secret Woman… BREAK THE BED (MAN AND WOMAN) COME & TEST. IT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE …

One Hajia Zeynab, simply referred to as Hajia, a herbal guru from Niger Republic, claimed to be a specialist on exploiting and perfecting sexual activities in favour of the women. Armed with the concoction, she said women can afford to leave their men at their mercy. She thrilled other women who went to the exhibition with her variety of concoctions. They in turn rewarded her expertise with much naira notes and foreign currencies where naira could not foot the bill.

Zeynab’s shop was really a beehive as many cars owned by women of different classes packed nearby and the calibre of women that trooped in and out of her shop was something else. Weekly Trust learnt that a woman came all the way from London to satisfy her need.  “I have been to Niger Republic and was told that you went to Togo, and when I went there, I was told that you have gone to Nigeria. Please, I do not have time to waste as I am here in Nigeria just for this and have to go back first thing tomorrow morning  to London,” our reporter, who eavesdropped, heard the woman saying. With these words, Zeynab packaged her “stuff” for the woman. The items ranged from kujaran matar, goyon baya, ayu, mai yawu, kyandir, danbaka, among others.

Just after settling the Londoner, a woman who brought her brother’s wife walked in. She narrated how the various types of charms she acquired made her to achieve the desired result from her husband. Zeynab brought out the charms, which are just like a rope. She said the charm is normally tied to the waist by the woman to control a wayward husband; that with it around on her waist, when the husband goes out and decides to engage in extramarital affairs, he would not gain erection.

She also said, “It is very effective but there is a repercussion. If you have a mate and use it on your husband, he will not be able to fulfil his manly obligations to the other woman. But the day Allah wishes he does fulfil his obligations and she conceives, then your death has come, for you will surely die”.  Weekly Trust learned that the cost of this particular charm is N150,000. Both women made part-payment and promised to go back for it later. The kujeran mata involves one sitting over burning coal with the concoction all in the name of getting the man to be satisfied with the wife.

At this point, more customers trooped in and Hajia started sharing the content of a bottle to them. On enquiry, it was learnt that it was simi, which arouses women’s sexual desire. It is reported to be popular among them. The charm called goyon baya is meant to give a person followers everywhere they go notwithstanding your position or character. “All you need to do is to put it in your bag anytime you are going out and see it work wonders for you.”

At this stage, a drama ensued. A woman who went with a list of six charms caused a stir when her request was being met. She violently rejected a particular one, saying “Please, abeg, I do not want that one because the last time I used it, I had to start chasing the man away.” Zeynab replied her thus: “You these Abuja women seem to be very sluggish, that is why I prefer to go to Minna where we have women and young ladies who are ready to do anything to get a man.” It was then she revealed that she was going for the NAFEST exhibition in Minna, which will take place sometime later this year.

As women derive benefit from Hajia’s ‘help’, another woman explained how she has been abandoned by her husband in preference to her mate. Hajia told the “embittered” woman that her problem would be solved if she aquires the hearts of chicken, dog and donkey with millet to prepare the remedy for her problem. Listening to the process for preparing this concoction was not only terrifying, but horrible. “Before you can do this, you have to make sure that it is a period your husband is out of town for at least a week. Put the heart of the chicken in your private part and the millet in your mouth, and then sleep with it like that till the next morning. Bring them out to dry with the other hearts of the dog and donkey under the sun. When properly dried, pound everything into powder. After that, cut hair from all parts of your body which has hair.

“In addition, cut all your finger and toe nails, heat them to be dry so that they can be pounded, then you add up all the pounded substance,” Zeynab said. After this directive, she again gave the woman another concoction in a plastic rubber that she would mix with the pounded powder. She then told the woman to use it in her husband’s meals. “If this does not get the attention of the man, then do not ever spend a dime on the man again, for he is not mearnt for you,” she concluded.

A woman in the room unconsciously mouthed aloud why they go through all these and the reply was, “It is because of these stupid and foolish men that we are going through all these trauma as they have refused to stay put and be satisfied with one wife.”

Our reporter learned that Hajia measures her concoctions with the tip of her fingernails and none of the charms sells for less than N10,000. Interestingly, a lot of the women who visited her secret room were civil servants. One then wonders who their victims are and is forced to have pity on those in advance of what is to be unleashed. Even the Akwa Ibom/Cross River babes in spite of their world standing record were there to get enhancers for their already renowned status.

The most used lines there are: “He thinks he is wise. By the time I am through with him, he won’t know what went through him”; “So that director thinks he is strong, e go see pepper for my hand”; “He says he won’t give me the money, abi? I no go even argue with am. When I open my mouth for am, he will roll out his bank account and won’t realise when he did it.”

One is forced to ask if it is really necessary to pass through all the above to get the desired attention from a man while putting life and health at risk and forgetting that all in this world is vanity.
