AEDC decries 45% energy payment by customers, promotes safety

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has urged electricity customers under the Nasarawa region to improve on paying electricity bills from the current 45 per cent just as it sensitised them on the safe use of electricity.

The General Manager, Nasarawa Region, Amin Shaku who led a delegation to the Chief of Gurku community in the state said customers are being sensitised on the dangers of building or trading under wires, urging governments to stop allocating lands under cables’ right of way.

“It is about 45 per cent rate for the bill payment. Certainly, there will be improvement in collection but we need them to support us that is why we are sensitising them,” Shaku who represented the Managing Director, Ernest Mupwaya said.
On the safety sensitisation across Mararaba area of the state, he said, “It is part of the effort being made to enlighten the people on the dangers of not observing the corridor that is meant for our business. Building under the right of way is dangerous.”

While presenting souvenirs to the Chief of Gurku, he lauded the community leadership and other parts of the Mararaba-Gurku axis for the support Distribution Company (DisCo) was receiving from them in providing electricity.

The Director of Risk and Compliance, Collins Chabuka said electricity is important to enhancing lives but that “it is a bad product as it hardly gives victims a survival chance unlike like other accidents.”

Chabuka who was represented by the General Manager, Risk and Compliance, Godwin Akadu urged people he observed trading under high tensions along the Gurku road to desist from that, and insist on engaging professional electricians to avoid electrocution.

The Sarkin Gurku, Jibrin Waziri who also presented gifts to the company called for improved power supply to his subjects noting that the message of safety will be delivered to the subjects through the various representatives present at the sensitisation.
