The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Usmanu Danfodiyo University has faulted the federal government for advertising the position of Vice Chancellor of the university and other senior officers in the absence of governing council.
A statement jointly signed by its chairman and secretary, Muhammad Almustapha and Shuaibu Sodiku noted that the advertisement violated university statutes concerning the appointment process of a new Vice Chancellor, and casted doubt on the integrity, fairness, and legality of these proceedings.
ASUU, however, called on President Bola Tinubu, Minister of Education, and other critical stakeholders to, as a matter of urgency and necessity, reconstitute the Governing Councils of public universities.
“This step is crucial for universities to operate legally and smoothly, in line with the provisions of the law,” it said.
