The National Association of Heads of Local Government Administration of Nigeria (NAHOLGAN) has decried the non implementation of local government autonomy in the country after the approval by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its two-day second national delegates conference held in Abuja, the association expressed concern over the deteriorating level of local administration and declining productivity output caused by the overbearing influence of both states and federal government.

With the theme, “Strengthening the Local Governments in Nigeria: Challenges and the Way Forward,” the two-day conference drew delegates from the 36 states in the country.
The highlight of the conference was the presentation of its reviewed constitution, presentation of financial report as well as the election and swearing-in of newly elected executives.
In the communiqué signed by its new president, Alh. Abdulrahman Marafa, and National Secretary, Noel Itade, NAHOLGAN lamented the prevailing insecurity in the country, saying the local governments were suffering the most because employees no longer felt safe.
The association advocated a total review of the entire country’s security architecture in line with global best practices.
