Adekunle Adeleke says he is very confident the People’s Elephant will bounce back to winning ways in the Nigeria Professional Football League following a shaky run of form.

The two-time African champions are without a win in their last three NPFL matches, after successive home draws against MFM FC and Niger Tornadoes and an away loss to Kwara United.

The unimpressive run has also seen Finidi George’s side drop to 7th on the NPFL log, with 21 points from 14 games.

Reacting to last weekend’s 1-1 draw in Aba against struggling MFM, the Super Eagles centre-back stated that the record 8-time league champions have what it takes to turn their fortunes around.

“It’s a sad one,” the former Abia Warriors star said after the match. “It’s very disappointing that we didn’t get the result we deserve, but this is football. Sometimes, it happens like that.

“What we are facing now will come and go. Every team have their good times and bad times. So, I believe this is just a phase for us. We will overcome it.

“Anybody who watched the game today (Saturday) will not say we didn’t put in our best or we are not putting effort on the field of play. We created the chances, but we are not just converting them. It’s a process, we’ll get it soon.

Enyimba will next face Heartland in a tricky Oriental Derby on Saturday in Owerri, and Adeleke remains hopeful the team will be able to turn the situation around.

“We don’t have a choice, this is our work. It is football, and we are all professionals. We have to take the game one after the other,” he said.

“This is one game; it has come and gone. So, what we have to do is to put ourselves together and tell ourselves that ‘we can do this’. This is our job.

“We will come out again and give our best as professionals. Surely, we will get it right.”
