ADB trains 2,054 rice farmers in Kano, Jigawa

The African Development Bank, in collaboration with the Federal Government, has trained 2,054 farmers on modern farming techniques with a view to increasing yield in the production of rice, within the last two years in Jigawa and Kano states.

The selected farmers were trained under a programme designed by Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Transformation Support Programme Phase 1, otherwise referred to as ATASP-1 and implemented in conjunction with Africa Rice Center.

The Research Associate of the center, Bisi Ilebani, said yesterday during the commemoration of farmers field day in Auyo Local Government Area of Jigawa State, that in 2016, 911 farmers comprising 608 male and 56 female were trained while in 2017, 1, 963 made up of 1,332 males and 221 females were trained from the two states.

In his remark, the programme Coordinator, Akwashiki Haruna, who was represented by the outreach specialist of the programme, Festus Izuako, said the programme was promoting commercial production of the selected three staple crops in seven states across the country.
