Adamawa supplementary Polls: PDP insists on REC’s removal before April 15

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately remove the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner Mallam Hudu Yunusa Ari from the state before the April 15 supplementary elections.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, Debo Ologunagba, national publicity secretary of the PDP said the party is against the continued stay in office of mallam Ari, adding the retention of the REC in the state is tantamount to daring the people to do their worst.

Ologunagba explained that credible information available to the PDP shows that “INEC is stoking a breakdown of law and order in Adamawa state with the continued stay in office of Ari as Adamawa  REC in spite of his alleged complicity in the plots to manipulate the outcome of the governorship election in the state, even with PDP’s clear lead of 31,299 lawful votes in the election.”

The PDP spokesman noted that it is “provocative and unacceptable that INEC retained Yunusa Ari to conduct the April 15, 2023 governorship supplementary election despite being reportedly caught on tape directing the electoral officer of Fufore LGA in Hausa language to alter election results in favour of the defeated governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Aisha Binani.

The main opposition party also said the situation around the REC is worsened by allegations of similar instructions to electoral officers in some other LGAs of the state to manipulate the results of the election.
