Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has said that civil servants in the state gulp about ninety percent of its monthly allocation.
The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Maxwell Gidado, stated this at the opening of a three-day capacity building workshop for workers in Yola Wednesday.
Fintiri called for assistance from the private sector to reduce dependence on government.
He lamented that out of N4.2 billion the state receives monthly from the federation account, a whooping sum of N3.7 billion is spent on civil servant salaries while the state is left with only N500 million.
He said the state’s internally-generated revenue was not up to N1 billion.
He emphasised the need for massive entrepreneurship training of women and youth for a sustainable future.
