Adamawa, Nasarawa, Oyo assemblies pass 2024 budgets

The Adamawa, Nasarawa and Oyo states’ assemblies have passed the 2024 budgets presented by the state governors.

The budget proposals were passed following the consideration and adoption of reports by the committees that scrutinised the fiscal documents.

In the Adamawa State House of Assembly, the Majority Leader, Kate Raymond Mamuno, urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to follow the recommendations outlined in the report while implementing their budgets.

He also urged the revenue-generating agencies to double their efforts and to generate more revenue.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri presented the N225.8 billion budget to the parliament.

In Nasarawa, the state assembly approved the N199.9 2024 budget presented by Governor Abdullahi Sule after the lawmakers considered the report of its Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

The House increased recurrent expenditure from N112.9bn to N117.1bn and reduced capital expenditure from N86.95 to N82.7bn.

Suleiman Yakubu Azara, the Majority Leader of the House, moved a motion for the adoption of the committee report which was seconded by Mr Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader.

Also, the Oyo State House of Assembly increased the budget to N438.4 billion from the N434.2 billion presented by Governor Seyi Makinde.

The Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, commended the committee members and other lawmakers who worked round the clock to ensure the early passage of the 2024 Appropriation Bill.

Hon. Ogundoyin said the House made an upward review of the 2024 budget to reflect the current economic realities and situations in the country and to cater to some critical sectors.

He expressed optimism that the budget would help drive the economic recovery agenda of Governor Makinde in the coming year.

The speaker also said the House would embark on full legislative oversight to ensure optimum performance of the budget.
