The party in a communiqué issued at the end of its NEC meeting, which held on January 30 in Abuja, said by serving three terms in office, the chairman has breached the provisions of the Nigeria’s constitution and that of the party.
The party also said the 12-year reign of the former national chairman was nothing to write home about, as AD has failed to clinch even a single seat at state assemblies or a councillor.
However, a check into the INEC website yesterday reveals the name of Akinfunwa as the national chairman of the party.
But in the communiqué, signed by the party’s national secretary and its presidential candidate, Rafiu Salau, the party urged its members nationwide to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), saying that failure to collect the PVCs amounts to abandoning their mandates.
“Senator Mojisola Akinfunwa has spent 12 years in office as the national chairman. In that capacity, he endorsed the party’s candidates in 2007,2011 and 2015 general elections. The national and party constitutions have automatically removed senator Akinfunwa as the chairman because only two terms of 8 years are allowed.
