A veteran Nollywood actor, Kenneth Aguba, has reportedly been found homeless in Enugu State.
In proportion to an image which had been making rounds on social media platforms, Kenneth Aguba was spotted living in an open shelter, opposite a closed shop, with various cooking utensils which belonged to him.
The news platform, Igbo Times, which shared the news to the public on their Twitter account, wrote; ” Veteran actor, Kenneth Aguba popularly known as Agụba, is reportedly homeless. The place shown in the photos is said to be where he currently lives”.
Since the photos went viral, various Nigerians have expressed their anger and criticized the Actors Guild of Nigeria, questioning why they haven’t helped their own despite their trust fund programs.
Meanwhile, popular Nollywood Actor Yul Edochie who saw the picture of the actor announced publicly that he would assist his colleague.
Edochie announced on his verified Twitter account that Kenneth Aguba should make a video clip and call out his account number
Yul wrote, “This one na small matter. Me I don’t believe in too much talk or time-wasting. Just get him to do a short video calling out his account details and post it online. We’ll do crowdfunding for him. He’ll never lack anything again.”(sic)
Meanwhile, in a statement released by the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the association revealed that they had been taking care of Kenneth for over four years until recently when his case degenerated.
The Guild in a statement signed by the Senior Special Adviser to the national president on media and publicity, Kemi Adekomi, described the actors plight as ‘spiritual issues’.
Taking to their Instagram account, the Guild wrote, “The attention of the Actors Guild of Nigeria has been drawn to an online viral picture of veteran actor, Kenneth Aguba living on the street.
“The National President of the Guild, Ejezie Emeka Rollas wishes to state in clear terms that the Guild has never abandoned Kenneth Aguba.
“Enugu state chapter of the Guild and individual members have been supportive in both provision of accommodation and medical interventions in the past four years to the veteran actor until his matter which could be a spiritual issue, degenerated recently.”
The statement further read, “The Guild just does not make public, issues regarding assistance to its members.
“The National President frowns at the shades thrown at the leadership of the Guild since the story went viral, describing it as the handwork of detractors which may not be unconnected with the present towering reputation of the Guild.
“Actors Guild of Nigeria wishes to reiterate that it welcomes inquiries on issues regarding welfare of members, as the Guild runs an open-door policy and calls on the public to always verify their stories before expressing not-so-palatable comments.
“Meanwhile, the National President wishes to thank good spirited members who have called to show concern and willingness to provide immediate intervention.
