ActionAid Nigeria has called on the Kogi State Government to establish Kogi Youth Development Commission following the recent assent to the Youth Development Bill by Governor Yahaya Bello.
A statement on Monday by the organization’s Communications Coordinator, Lola Ayanda, said this would help to create jobs and increase economic development opportunities for youths in the state, reduce violent extremism and other social vices.
ActionAid Country Director, Mrs. Ene Obi, according to the statement, said the organization believes that a Nigeria without poverty is possible, hence the assent of the governor was timely and laudable for Kogi youths.
She said: “We, however, call on the government of Kogi State to expedite action towards the establishment of the proposed commission as the signing of the bill is not an end in itself, but a means to an end.
“As a development partner working in the state, we believe that the establishment of the commission will give us and other development partners the needed opportunity to structurally engage with Kogi youths when it comes to capacity building and economic empowerment.”
