Nollywood actor, Deyemi Okanlawon, has opened up on his career as an actor and how he did not take fully to acting as first choice.
He stated that his initial interest was “Event hosting” when he first ventured into the industry 12 years ago and was very devastated when it failed.
“Over 12 years ago my first area of interest in entertainment was event hosting/compering (I had a list of about 10 skills I thought had acted close to the last). Did a few free gigs for friends and family and I was confident I had something to offer,” he said in an interview.
“So as a former sales & marketing executive I came up with a brilliant plan that got me meetings with several event planners. I was even ready to work for cheap/free to kick off my MC career, but no one ever called back. I was devastated at what seemed then like a failure.”
The top actor who featured in ‘Blood Sisters’ insisted that all dreams are valid but timing is crucial to the process.
He added that it was important to keep pitching your skills through your journey no matter how successful you are, as being an actor finally opened up his path to event hosting.
The actor will star in the forthcoming movie ‘Elesin Oba, The King’s Horseman’, a screen adaptation of Wole Soyinka’s Death and the King’s Horseman.
