The Kano State chapter of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has promised to set up a scholarship scheme for indigenes who cannot afford to pay for tertiary education in the state.

The newly elected chairman of the forum, Dr Umar Faruk Gwani, disclosed this in Kano in his acceptance speech, saying the decision was necessary as the government was gradually commercialising the sector.

Daily Trust reports that new executives of the ACF were elected unopposed at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Kano.

The new chairman added that the forum would also engage gubernatorial candidates from different political parties on its blueprint, especially on education, healthcare, security, agriculture and youth and women empowerment.

According to him, the new leadership will prioritise security through community policing to support security agencies and voluntary organisations in the fight against criminal activities.

While inaugurating the new executives, the ACF Chairman of its Board of Trustees, Kano, General Halliru Akilu (Rtd), charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them.

Gen Akilu tasked the new executives to develop programmes and policies that would take Kano and Northern Nigeria to greater heights.

Akilu, who is among the founding fathers of ACF, called on the new leadership to partner with patriotic sister associations to move the forum forward.

Other members of the new executives are Dr Muhammad Mustapha Yahaya (secretary), Hajiya Aishatu Yakubu Maijama’a (deputy chairman), Amb Dr Rufa’i Mukhtar Danmaje (vice chairman) and Prof Kamilu Sani Fagge (assistant secretary).

Others are Hajiya Rabi’a Hussaini Adamu (treasurer), Hajiya Mairo Bello (assistant treasurer), Alhaji Bello Sani Galadanci (publicity secretary) and Nasiru Yusuf Ibrahim (assistant publicity secretary).

The rest are Prof Yusuf Alhassan (auditor), Hajiya Hadiza Kishimi (assistant auditor), Barr Kabiru Mukhtar (legal adviser) and Muhammad Kabiru Haruna (assistant legal adviser).
