Accord Party sacks Oyo exco for endorsing Makinde

The national leadership of the Accord Party (AP) has sacked the Oyo State executives for endorsing the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and incumbent governor of the state, Seyi Makinde, for a second term in office ahead of the March 18, polls in the state.

The decision was reached during an emergency meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Thursday in Abuja.

Some leaders of the AP in Oyo had endorsed Makinde as their preferred candidate, while another group which also claimed to be members of the party endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Teslim Folarin, at a separate event.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the NWC meeting, the party’s National Chairman, Muhammad Lawal Nalado, said the top echelon of the party had sacked the Oyo State party Chairman, Prince Kolade Ojo; Secretary, Hon Yinka Dairo and the entire executive committee members for endorsing Makinde against the party’s candidate, Adebayo Adelabu.

The party also constituted a five-man caretaker committee with Alhaji Isiaka Salami (chairman), Bashiru Ayobami (secretary) Fatai Salawu, Bimpe Martins and Ayodele Oyajide as members.

The party directed the sacked executive members to hand over all party property and documents in their possession to the caretaker committee with immediate effect.
