Accord expels presidential candidate, 7 others over anti-party activities

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of Accord has expelled its 2023 presidential candidate, Professor Christopher Imumolen, alongside seven other members, citing anti-party activities.

This decision, taken at the NEC meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, was conveyed in a communiqué signed by Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, the party’s national chairman, and Dr. Adebukola A. Ajaja, national secretary.

The NEC stated that the expulsions followed recommendations from a seven-member disciplinary committee established to investigate allegations of gross misconduct, anti-party activities, and breaches of the party’s constitution.

“NEC unanimously approved, upheld, and endorsed disciplinary measures against members involved in factionalising the party, bringing it into disrepute, and violating its constitution,” the communiqué read.

Aside from Imumolen, others expelled are: Lanre Ogundare, Lagos State Chairman; Surajo Ibrahim, Zamfara State Chairman; Muktar Abdalla, Borno State Chairman; Chief Abiola Samuel Odeoba, former Ekiti State Chairman; Dr. Falaye Ajibola, former Ondo State Chairman; Dzingina Jacob Ephraim, Nasarawa State Chairman; and Prince Adebisi Wale Ganiy.

Three others, including Salimu Lawal Boyi (Katsina), Fatima Mohammed Zarumi (Yobe), and Abdullahi Isa Kasowa (Bauchi), were suspended.

The NEC emphasised the importance of adhering to the party’s constitution to prevent anarchy and reaffirmed its confidence in Mgbudem’s leadership, commending his efforts to rebuild and rebrand Accord ahead of the 2027 elections.
