Accolades as Media Trust’s director, Naziru Abubakar bows out

The Group Executive Director/Editor-in-Chief (Digital) of Media Trust, Malam Naziru Mika’ilu Abubakar, has bowed out of the company after four years of dedicated service.

A send-forth ceremony held in his honour at the Media Trust headquarters in Abuja on Friday, was attended by members of the board, management and staff of the company.

Speaking during the ceremony, a member of the board of the company, Malam Mannir Dan-Ali, thanked Malam Abubakar for his service, adding that the ceremony was a validation that the company is becoming an institution and a family.

“We always believe that the family relationship continues”, he said.

He added that Mr Abubakar was leaving at a difficult time of social, economic and political challenges for individuals and organisations in the country and prayed for divine help.

Also speaking, the Group Chief Executive Officer/Editor-in-Chief  (Print) of the company, Malam Ahmed Shekarau, described the event as “an emotional moment for all of us”, recalling the contributions of the outgoing executive director to the company’s digital platforms.

“We will miss him not just for his skills, but for the temperament in calming down situations, no matter what,” he added.

The Group Executive Director, Corporate Service, Hajiya Hadiza Bala, described the departure of Mr Abubakar as a “bitter-sweet” experience and wished him success.

In his remarks, the General Editor of the Daily Trust newspaper, Malam Hamza Idris, wished the outgoing executive director success in his future endeavours.

Responding, Mr Abubakar said he had to leave to pursue his PhD as a “lifelong ambition” to acquire that qualification in the field of digital media.

He recalled forfeiting the initial admission offered him to enable him take up the job at Media Trust to contribute his quota to its growth, adding that the role “was tasking as a lot of people doubted if I could cope.”

He commended the contributions of the staff and management for the success achieved in the last few years.

Other members of staff took turns to eulogise the outgoing executive director.
