An accident has claimed the lives of 19 persons in Bauchi State.
The accident involving a trailer and an 18 seater bus occurred along Gombe-Darazo road on Thursday.
A Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official in Darazo who spoke to our reporter on telephone on condition of anonymity that the accident occurred when the Bus carrying 20 people including the driver rammed into a trailer.
According to him, the Bus was on its way to Kano State from Gombe State when it rammed into the Trailer killing 16 persons instantly and injuring four others.
The source further disclosed that the injured were rushed to Darazo General Hospital for medical care while the corpses were deposited at mortuary of the hospital.
Three other people including a small child later died in the hospital.
Shedding more light on the accident, Head of Operations, FRSC, Bauchi Sector Command, Paul Guah however informed that, only 13 people died in the accident.
He said that he was away when the accident occurred but however confirmed that the 18-seater Bus, rammed into a trailer.
“I am out of town so I don’t have full details of the accident but what I gathered is that the Hummer Bus which was on a high speed rammed into a trailer. I learnt that 13 passengers were killed instantly. The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment,” he said.
Speaking to our reporter on telephone Saturday, the Darazo Chapter Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mohammed Sulaiman said that, the Driver popularly known as Iblu was going back to Kano after offloading textile materials he conveyed to Gombe.
According to him, the passengers were not loaded at a Garage but were picked at different places along the road.
“There are people from Zaria,Jigawa and other places. The boy who died among the three people is from Zaria and one of his parents is among the people that died instantly,”he said.
