The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has called on the federal government for the immediate take-off of the North East Development Commission (NEDC).

Speaking on Monday in Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe state where he commissioned empowerment projects donated by a member representing Kaltungo/Shomgom federal constituency, Hajiya Fatima Binta Bello, Dogara said the government should expedite action for the take-off of the commission to revive the region after nine years of insurgency.

Dogara added that he sponsored the bill which was assented by President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2017, to address humanitarian crisis occasioned by the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast.

The Speaker also said the 2019 election is between the APC government and millions of Nigerians who live in abject poverty and cannot get three square meals daily.

“The 2019 election is a referendum on the insecurity and mismanagement of the economy by the Buhari-led administration. Therefore, the election is between APC and over 85 million Nigerians who were put into abject poverty by the APC in the last four years,” he said.

Dogara called on Nigerians to put sentiments aside and vote for Atiku Abubakar, to save the country’s economy from collapsing.

Our correspondent report that 125 tricycles, 250 motorcycles, 300 sewing and grinding machines and other empowering items were distributed to over 1,000 beneficiaries at the event.
