In his keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University, Prof. Theophilus Oyeyemi Fadayomi, said killings and other security challenges across the country put the survival of everyone at risk.
He said: “The 2017 Crime Incidence Matrix showing high rate of offences against property, persons and assets confirms that the present policing strategy needs to be revisited in order to ensure that crime incidences reduce with inclusiveness of the community and other stakeholders.
“It is our fervent hope that this training will make a difference to the status quo, as we intend to engage law enforcement officers in higher levels of security training even at post-graduate levels, in order to build a new crop of officers with the capacity for forensic intelligence, crime analysis and investigation.”
Also speaking, the Group Managing Director of Halogen Security Company Limited, Mr. Wale Olaoye, commended the leadership of the Nigerian Police for allowing its men to be trained for the professional enhancement programme.
“This is the type of great success witnessed when private and public sector collaborates,” he said, adding that “the graduands should deploy their newly acquired skills for impact as they are seeds that will germinate to become catalyst for change.”
In his brief welcome address, Dr. Abiola Allen, who doubles as the Programme Director and President of The Association of Certified Forensic Intelligence and Crime Analysts [ACFICA], described the programme model as very rich, practical and germane to building great careers in the police force.
“The course contents are very contemporary and well designed in response to rising crime challenges in our society,” he said.
The Chief Operating Officer of Academy Halogen, Dr. Wale Adeagbo, commended the participants for the passion they exhibited during the training, adding that “knowledge is power; I encourage you to go the extra mile to add to knowledge in your field.”
Commenting on behalf of the course participants, CSP Veronica Ameh-Akpa, Officer-In-Charge, State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Lagos thanked the IGP for approving the training and commended Academy Halogen’s faculty members for adding to their knowledge.
The Crime Prevention and Community Safety course, which is in line with the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC), was jointly facilitated by Academy Halogen, the Association of Certified Forensic Intelligence and Crime Analysts (ACFICA) and Elizade University, to equip men of the NPF with requisite skills to prevent and respond to emerging crime and community safety issues across the country.
