Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) Zaria has named its upgraded Accident and Emergency Unit after the late Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris who died on September 20th last year.
The Chief Medical Director of ABUTH, Prof Hamidu Umdagas, told Daily Trust in Zaria that the decision was due to the immeasurable contributions and support of the late emir towards the development of the hospital.

Prof. Umdagas noted that ABUTH had been in a deplorable condition with decayed infrastructure after its establishment in the 70s until the late emir took it upon himself to ensure the hospital received a facelift.
He added that the decision to name the facility after him was decided prior to his death, stressing that the hospital immortalised him to enable people to know his efforts toward upgrading the hospital.
