The management of Premier International School, Abuja, has honoured students that performed well at the school’s maiden cursive handwriting contest.
The Head of the school, Charles Oseni, said a student who was able to write would be able to express himself confidently and win the respect of others.
“It is quite sad that some undergraduates write poorly,” he said, adding that the school wanted students to be bold and proud of their achievements.
The winners are Adesola Ademola, Michael Martin-Ugbana, Christopher Nnaji, Nathan Mbadinuju, Idris Isah, Imran Abdulraheem, Anna-Marie Abah, Abdulraheem Oba, Salma Chiamaka Chime and Esther Onyeguzoro. Bradley Ekweremadu and Muhammad Abubakar Idris.
One of the winners, 11-year-old Esther Onyeguzoro, urged other students to develop their handwriting skills, noting that, “It is good to have one more skill. Students should learn handwriting skills because having good writing is a plus and it tells your personality.”
The Coordinator of the school’s Art Department, Mr Armstrong Agoreyo, said, “The world is gradually changing and a person with very good and legible handwriting has many advantages. It is a way of making a statement to the world even without saying anything. It can actually open doors of opportunities without making any statement. Handwriting is a statement on its own.”
