Abuja rugby team to introduce game to schools

Speaking to Daily Trust over the weekend after a novelty match where team Abuja defeated team Jos 1:0, Captain of the Abuja rugby team, Aliyu Shelleng said it was necessary to get younger children to love the game early so that as they are growing, rugby would enjoy more participation and popularity.
Explaining why the novelty match was played at Family Worship Center field, he said the intention was to introduce the game to the church adding “we are trying to making the game popular.”
Shelleng who disclosed that the national team didn’t make it to the just concluded commonwealth competition due to lack of sponsorship called on the government to show more commitment to the game so that it could also gain popularity like other games.
