The prestigious Carnival polo tournament that hit Abuja with a bang came to a thrilling end last week, with teams from Jos, Kano and host, Abuja sweeping the stakes in the national fiesta that featured twenty-eight teams.

Rubicon tops the list of golden buzzers, clinching the event’s biggest prize, the President Cup, while the rampaging Malcomines from Jos won the overall runners-up prize. Top running Fas-Agro made Kano proud emerging champions in the legislative Cup race.

One of Nigeria’s most decorated polo teams, Abuja Rubicon rallied past four tough contenders, to earn a successful title defense.

The nerve wrecking grand finale was watched the Secretary of the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha, who was the Special Guest of Honour, emir of Kazuare and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Buratai and thousands of polo buffs.

At the end of the explosive clash, the quartet of Malik and Idris Badamasi, Fernando Bourdieu and skipper Jamilu Mohammed earned a slim victory against Malcomines foursome of Murtala Laushi, Hamisu Buba, two Argentine imports, to clinch the top prize.

The Jos miners held their heads high as the event’s Runners up finishers, matching Abuja based teams playing with the full complement of their patrons and home crowd.

Other top winners include, Kano Fas Agro team who clinched the Legislative Clinch and the Abuja based DeeBee Farmers who defeated a crowded field to clinch the highly revered Guards Challenge Trophy.

Golden Alchemy fought well to emerge winners of the glittering Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Ministers Cup, a feat that ensured host Abuja emerged the biggest winner of the weeklong polo fiesta.
