As the countdown to another successful change of government ticks, the foremost Guards Polo Club in Abuja has commenced preparations ahead of the prestigious 2023 Unity Polo Tournament that usually holds during the Democracy Day celebration.
Polo Royals recalled that the prestigious event that is revered as the first major event to be staged in Nigeria’s capital City was initiated in early 2000 as a symbolic fiesta to commemorate nations’ unity and launch Abuja on the map as a significant polo centre.
Polo Royals also noted that the prestigious polo fiesta which may likely be hosted as part of activities marking Democracy Day has now been moved from May 29 to June 12 every year; also offer other glittering prizes like the Legislative Shield, FCT Ministers Cup and the Guards Challenge in the high goal, medium, intermediate and Low-goal categories respectively.
A source close to the management of the club disclosed that everything is gradually taking shape for a successful Unity tournament this year. “Our pitch is fast taking shape and the location of the Guards Polo Club remains a tourist delight. Those who would be part of this historic event are guaranteed a most exciting and the most memorable time in Abuja.
