The Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, (RIFAN) is planning a rice festival in Abuja to support the Federal Government’s quest for food security in the country.
The festival is expected to be held at the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, (ACCI).

When Daily Trust visited the proposed venue along the Airport Road, there was a beehive of activities as trailer loads of rice from different parts of the country were being offloaded and arranged into rice pyramids.
Our reporter counted at least ten rice pyramids adorning the venue of the festival even though sources said more trailers of rice and pyramids were still expected before the due date.
An official of the RIFAN, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “Please, it is too early for us to speak on what is happening here.
“All I can say is that our president will soon call you to address you on our plan for this festival.
“This is a huge event, our president will tell you what it entails. We are expecting President Muhammadu Buhari to be here during the event. This is what I can tell you.”
It was gathered that trailers had been arriving from all over the country since last December and workers have been working round the clock to put the rice pyramids together ahead of the event.
