Abia community decries deplorable road condition

Residents of Arochukwu community in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, have called on the federal and state governments to fix their road which has been deplorable and abandoned for over 20 years.

The one kilometre road in Agbagwu village, links Arochukwu/Ohafia federal road to the old Ministry of Works and Housing  garage and the Abia Hotel complex among others.

Some indigenes of the community, who narrated their ordeal to South East Trust, lamented that the road, which used to be very busy in the past, had become impassable.

One of the residents, Emmanuel Ikechukwu, told our correspondent that apart from the deplorable condition of the road, erosion also posed a great threat to the community especially during the rainy season.

Ikechukwu said, “For many years now, we have forgotten about driving our cars to our houses, until recently when one of our brothers, Pastor and Mrs Eberechkwu Oji, decided to intervene in fixing the road”.

The member representing Arochukwu state constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr Mike Ukoha, commended the Ojis for their approach to community development by attempting to fix the road.

When contacted, Oji, who said over N10m has so far been spent on the construction of drainage, pleaded with relevant agencies to intervene and fix the road.
