The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe, said so many members of the party have been arrested over trumped-up charges.
Senator Abe, who spoke to journalists in Port Harcourt on Saturday, said the arrests, which were allegedly instigated by the PDP in Rivers State, are aimed at intimidating its members from participating in the forthcoming presidential election of February 25.
Abe alleged that those arrested so far have been arraigned and detained on trump-up charges, while Kamara Amachree and Dr Bethel Oko Jaja have been facing threats.
He said that the leadership of the party has made inquiries to find out the offences committed by those arrested but pointed out that neither the police nor the state government could offer any explanation on why its members were arrested.
