Abdullahi Adamu urges students to be competitive

Senator Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa West) Monday advised students to imbibe the spirit of competitiveness in order to succeed. 

He spoke while receiving students that participated in the debate contest organized by the Abdullahi Adamu Research Library and Islamic Centre in Keffi.

Students from five schools debated the topic ‘Are Social Media Platforms Better Sources of Knowledge than Libraries?”

Students of Al-Iman School, Agwada, won the debate with a total point of 78 per cent; those of ECWA High School, Keffi, first runners up with 76 per cent; those of Sabilu Rashad Islamic Academy, Keffi, second runners up with 66 per cent; those of Federal Government College, Keffi and Government College, Keffi, fourth position with 58 per cent each. 

All the students received cash prizes for their performances. 

Adamu said he would ensure that the frontiers of the competition were expanded to accommodate more schools.

 “It makes a whole difference; the psychology of competition and this life is all about competition. If you can’t compete, you’re out. The whole idea is to compete; somebody who came first today could be challenged by the person that came second during the next contest,” he said.

The lead debater of Al-Iman School, Agwada, Nasarawa State, Yusuf Abubakar, attributed the success of the school to hard work, faith and prayer. 

The chief judge of the debate and librarian, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Dr Abdulkadir Aliyu, commended the students for their outstanding performance, describing them as winners.
