Stephen Oshlame, one of the victims, said “We were reading for exams when suddenly we heard some students within the compound shouting. We taught it was a fight but later realised that it was kidnappers that stormed the compound. “They took us to the bush. We walked barefooted for several hours.”

Ozema Uche, another victim, said, “It was not easy for us during that first night because we trekked on broken bottles and sharp stones for hours. We were moved from one bush to another before we finally arrived in a forest.”

While noting that they missed the examinations they were preparing for, the victims called on security agencies in the state to put more effort in providing security in the area.
