Abducted Unilorin student regains freedom

A 100-level Zoology student at the University of Ilorin, Moyosore Bright, who was kidnapped on the university campus has reportedly escaped from the kidnappers’ custody.

Daily Trust had reported that Moyosore had boarded a minibus (Korope) at the school’s motor park about 2 p.m. on Friday and later found herself in a bush on the outskirts of a town, with some of her belongings taken away by the perpetrators.

A spokesperson for the state’s Police Command, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, saying the female student had to find her way back to the city after she regained consciousness.

The PPRO stated that the case was reported to the police on Saturday, that the victim was kidnapped on the school premises, and that an inquiry was launched immediately by the command team in Tanke.

The statement read, “On January 27th, 2024, at approximately 2200 hours, the DPO, Tanke division got information that a University of Ilorin 100-level student had been abducted on the school premises.

“Preliminary investigation found that on January 26, 2024, at approximately 1400 hours. Moyosore Bright, a female student of the Zoology Department at the University of Ilorin, boarded a minibus (Korope) with other students at the school terminus on the main campus with the intention of going to her hostel in Tanke.

“However, at around 1900hrs on the same day, several kilometers from Ilorin, she suddenly regained consciousness in the bush. There were no signs of assault on her, and her cell phone was still intact, however the following items were taken from her: a gold chain, ATM cards, and N3,000. The investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrators of this atrocity.”

According to the spokesperson, the state Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, has pledged that the command will not stop working to ensure the safety of the people in the state.
