The abducted father of the vice chairman of Kwali Area Council of the FCT, Suleiman Idris, and two others who were among seven victims that were kidnapped have been set free after payment of N5 million ransom.
City & crime had reported that kidnappers three weeks ago invaded Yewuti, the hometown of the former vice chairman of Kwali area council Alhaji Zubairu Jirbin Yewuti, and whisked seven including father of the incumbent vice chairman, Suleiman Idris at gunpoint.
A family member, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the release of the victim and two others through telephone to our reporter on Sunday.
He said a sum of N2 million was paid by relations of the vice chairman’s father while another N3 million was paid by the family of the two abducted victims before they were released.
He also disclosed that one of the four other abducted victims, who are from the same family was shot dead at the kidnappers’ den after the relations failed to raise the N5 million ransom demanded by their abductors.
“It was during a conversation on the phone when the man who was negotiating with the kidnappers’ leader said the victim’s family was only able to raise N500,000, which angered their leader and he shot one of the captives dead, “ he said.
There was no official response from the spokeswoman of the FCT police command SP Adeh Josephine over the release of the victim as at the time of filling the report.
