Born in Kaduna on September 11, 1947, the deceased attended Our Ladies’ High School, Kaduna from 1953 to 1957, before proceeding to Bousefield Primary School, London  (1958-1959). Abba Gana also attended Dulwich College, London (1960-1965) and thereafter, went to Isleworth Polytechnic, Brentford (1965—1966), where he obtained his Advanced level certificate. Between 1969 and 1972, he was at the famous Fleet Street College of Journalism, London where he bagged a Diploma in journalism.

Abba Gana began his working life at the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), from 1967-1974 before moving to Radio Television, Kaduna where he spent two years. Between 1976 and 1979, he left broadcasting briefly  to join KEXIMP Nigeria Limited but two years later, he returned to the Nigerian Television Authority Minna (1980-1985), before proceeding to NTA, Sokoto (1985-1991). In 1991, he left NTA  as manager programmes, to set up his own public relations outfit, Shabanib.

In his lifetime, Abba Gana garnered so many awards in broadcasting. In 1987, he bagged the best scriptwriter award in TELEFEST, with his KIDIVISION 101 playlet. The following year, he won the same award with a children’s adventure drama, “Lost and found“.

Similarly, he was TELEFEST’s award winning scriptwriter/producer of “Kidiland“ in 1989 and in the same year, he also bagged the most powerful actor award for his part as “Waziri“ in Magana Jari ce (Wisdom is an asset).

The late Abba Gana is survived by four daughters and his wife, Hajiya Shabaniya.
