Residents of six riverine communities in Abaji Area Council, Abuja, have appealed to the chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, to liaise with the FCT Administration on the construction of a bridge across the River Gurara when elected into office.
The residents of Alu, Mamagi, Mawogi, Pachuwa, Yewuni and Ebagi riverine communities in Abaji Area Council, made the request when the APC chairmanship candidate visited the community on Thursday.
Spokesman of Mamagi village, Malam Kolo Mamagi, said the bridge, if constructed, would boost socioeconomic activities between the communities and neighbouring states.
He said the bridge would also help farmers in the communities to transport their farm produce to the market.
“And beside, the only means through which farmers transport their crops is by using speed boats and canoes, donated to us by the former chairman of Abaji, he said.
Responding, the chairmanship candidate, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, assured that his administration would liaise with the FCT administration on how to ensure that a bridge is constructed across River Gurara if elected.
He said provision of viable amenities in rural communities was going to be one of his administration’s top priorities.
