The Chairman of Abaji Area Council of the FCT, Abdulrahman Ajiya, has assured the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the area of the protection of their lives and property.
Ajiya who was addressing the newly posted Batch A corps members at his office on Tuesday said the protection of their lives and property was imperative since the scheme was established as a symbol of unity irrespective of religion, tribe or ethnic differences.
He further said although the issue of security was a collective responsibility of everyone, there was need for every individual to support the security agents to tackle the challenge of insecurity bedevilling not only the council but the entire country.
The chairman disclosed that the council had directed its works department to take up the expenses for the renovation of the council’s male corpers’ lodge, adding that the council was also concluding arrangements to hand over a new female corpers’ lodge.
Speaking earlier on behalf of the corps members, Deborah Orioye, told the chairman about the security challenge facing the female corpers in the area, saying hoodlums recently broke into their lodge and dispossessed them of their phones and money.
She also complained about the state of the female corpers’ lodge, saying most of the doors, ceiling and roofing were in bad shape, adding that sewage system was also in a bad condition.
