AATI elects caretaker committe

The Association of African Tax Institutes (AATI) has elected a five-man caretaker committee team to direct the affairs of the association for the next one year.
At  the  meeting held in Abuja recently,  Dr. Teju Somorin emerged as the  new  Chairman of the AATI. 
Somorin is the current president, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and West African Union of Tax Institutes (WAUTI).
Somorin  is the first Nigerian with an (M tax) degree in Tax Administration, obtained from the University of Paris in 1983. She joined the then Federal Inland Revenue Department (FIRD), now called Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), in 1976 and rose to the position of Co-ordinating Director (Ag.) (first female to attain the position) before she retired in 2010 as the third person in the management hierarchy of FIRS, where she worked for 34 years, 17 of which were on the Directorate level.
Somorin is an experienced tax administrator with in-depth knowledge of the Nigerian tax system and one of the few Nigerian women who have carved a niche for themselves in the sphere of taxation, an area which is ordinarily dominated by men. She is the 24th member to be conferred with the status of a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
The President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana (CITG), Nii Ayi Aryeetey emerged the Vice Chairman of the AATI while Keith Engel, the Chief Executive Officer of the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners was elected Secretary.
