A peep into 2024 Ford Mustang

As Ford Mustang’s 60th anniversary is underway, Daily Trust presents the salient features of the 2024 variant of the pony car, described as the “fifth best-selling Ford car nameplate”.

The brand new 2024 Mustang Dark Horse coupe is powered by a naturally aspirated Gen-4 5.0L Coyote V8 engine, kicking out 500 horsepower and 418 lb.-ft. of torque that represents 100 hp/L to dominate the road.

It features a new Modular Power Cylinder (MPC) engine architecture to help improve performance.

According to Ford, from the streets to the track, the all-new Mustang® lineup “provides responsive, athletic handling at all speeds. The sport-tuned suspension, selectable drive modes, massive brakes and a flat-bottom steering wheel combine to give you precise control. Top it off with the available 2.3L High-Performance, GT Performance or Mustang Dark Horse Handling Packages — for a driving experience that lets you feel one with the road.”

As the Mustang enters its seventh generation, the new design brings the Mustang some desperately needed updates.

In addition to its many style and powertrain changes, the new Mustang comes with a fresh roster of offerings for those with a true need for speed.

Both Mustang GT and EcoBoost models will offer an optional performance pack equipment upgrade.

The performance pack adds a front strut-tower brace, Torsen limited-slip differential, wider wheels and tires, larger Brembo brakes and a MagneRide active-damping suspension. Optional Recaro buckets and an active exhaust are also available for the performance-minded. Additionally, Ford offers a Performance Electronic Parking Brake that looks like a traditional lever-action handbrake and is said to make the Mustang easier to drift.

All variants gained more range, with non-GT models seeing a 20-mile boost to 250 miles with the standard battery and 320 with the extended-range unit. The GT picked up 10 miles of range, giving it 280 miles on a charge, while the all-new for 2024 Mach-E Rally enters the model year with 265 miles of range.

Ford said the EV now charged 20 per cent faster, allowing a 10-80 per cent charge in just over 36 minutes for the extended-range battery – an 8.8-minute improvement over prior models. Standard-range models can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in a little over 32 minutes, 5.7 minutes faster than before. The Mach-E can charge at more than 15,000 Tesla Superchargers, and new navigation functionality uses Android Auto or Apple Maps to route you to open charging locations.

For the interior and the cargo compartment, reviewers found it more comfortable than it sounds and the seats also supportive.

The configurable display can be customised to fit the needs of most red, white, and blue patriots, with selectable colours, gauges, and even a “calm” screen that reveals only the most necessary details.

The Mustang GT gets leather inserts. Ford has also introduced a Remote Rev function that allows the car’s engine to blast up the RPMs with a simple click from the key fob while you admire the sounds from outside the car.

There is also an improvement in its interior gadgetry with a 13.2-inch infotainment screen using Ford’s Sync 4 software flow from the gauge cluster towards the center of the car behind a curved glass panel.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard on this system, and an optional wireless smartphone charger helps drivers reduce the clutter of charging cables. Amazon Alexa and Ford Streaming allow voice commands to replace knob-turning or button presses, and every Mustang comes with Ford Power-Up software capability, allowing for over-the-air updates for later software and vehicle function improvements.
