A night out at Wazobia Nite Club

While getting close to the place the bursting exposure of highlife hits the visitor as almost every hotel within the vicinity of the club house sparkles with music blasting from speakers.
What will excite the clubber most and almost stop his breath is the number of   girls who sit around restaurants and hotels in the area. The ladies come in various sizes, colours, shapes and can compete as well as win any pageant competition.
An enquiry into where you are from people at that vicinity shows you are at ‘Woman Boku’. “Hello, what can I do for you,” a lady with polished English informs our reporter.
Within seconds, the woman takes over the duty of the restaurant and serves our reporter a bowl of pounded Yam and Egusi soup. She also gets him a drink and fixes herself by his side, gazing at his face for more attention. “I know how to satisfy you very well,” says the lady after waiting for a while.
She goes further to inform of the various styles that can be performed on bed with amount attached and waits for an answer.
The prices announced by the lady range from N2,500 to N3,000 per short time, but when asked whether she can take N1,000, the lady says only if the person is her permanent lover.
Just then, another person steps into the restaurant and she dashes to him.
Few metres away from the restaurant lay Wazobia Nite Club. To first welcome visitors to the place are dazzling lights at the front of the building that spells the club name as well as shines on a notice board.  On the board, Tuesday night is called ladies nite and Weekly Trust gathered that it is meant to celebrate the ladies who stay in the club and those who attend the club. Hausa nite is fixed for Wednesday and during this period only Hausa music are played to the delight of all tribes present. On Thursday night, the Youruba’s have their day with Yoruba music blasting from speakers in the place. Friday is Igbos nite and only Igbo music is played, while Saturday is Nigeria nite, were all music including Tiv, Urhobo, Calabar and Idoma music among others are played.
Due to economic factors, the programmes in the club are in disorder. A lady standing outside the club when approached, said because of the high cost of hiring local musicians to fulfill the nites, they no longer carry out the programme religiously every week but fortnightly.
Last Wednesday, security appeared tight in the place as three hefty security men with body scanners checked people into the club. The club was filled with music blasting from speakers. Nigerian hip hop songs that made people jump up to dance often were those by 2- face, Nya Nya, Ice- Prince, Naeto-C, Whiz kid, P-Square, Mr Flavour, Debanj and other artists.
As the club was bubbling, string of sexy looking ladies took to the floor and immediately got the attention of some randy men.  One of the ladies accosted, said they charge N3, 500 for short time and N10,000 till day break.
Time appeared to have passed quickly while inside the club as the time showed 12 midnight and the streets around the club were already asleep since it was a week day.
Finding the way out of the area proved a bit difficult as bike riders refused to take our reporter to Kubwa expressway, because of a police checkpoint on the road.
A bold rider however agreed to go for N100 instead of the normal N50 and did not have trouble with policemen on the way, who only looked and waved us on.
From the expressway, getting to AYA at Asokoro District of Abuja was also difficult and a bus ride was taken to Gwarinpa junction where more commuters were waiting. It didn’t take 20 minutes for an unpainted commercial car to appear at the junction and we got a ride to AYA and later Nyanya.
The interesting thing about the journey was that Abuja appeared safer at night due to heavy police presence at almost every junction. The policemen stationed at such places were polite and didn’t harass night crawlers.
