Congratulations on your recent victory in the Nigerian apex court now clearly verified as the Governor of Kano State, after all the courts hurdles. I am writing to underscore the significance of the Citizen’s Charter of Demands that you have signed, and to emphasize the importance of its strategic implementation for the benefit of the citizens who have placed their trust in your leadership, who came out in million to cast their votes for you, to accompany the votes to local government and state secretariat to ensure their votes count, to pray for your victory in all courts from tribunal to supreme.
Kano Citizens Charter of Demand HASKEN KANO was presented to Your Excellency and you signed to work with it and to align it to go in hand with your blueprint, we at HASKEN KANO we are concerned group of non-partisan, apolitical Kano Citizens, we are passionate about the development of our state and Nigeria at large. Our platform comprises of community-based organizations, civil society organizations, and eminent community influencers, associations of people with disabilities, professional groups, journalists, academics, and other key players in the civic space. Your Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf we presented to you the charter before the 2023 general election, Your excellency we would like to emphasize the following talking points to guide the strategic use of citizens charter of demand in the state.
1. Transparent Communication: the citizens’ administration ( Your Administration) should uphold the commitment to transparent communication by regularly updating citizens on the progress of initiatives outlined in the charter and establish accessible communication channels to receive feedback and suggestions from the public, perhaps your administration should utilize the Kano Tracker (www.kanotracker.org) that track the NNPP 2023 blue print.
2. Priority Areas: Identify key priority areas within the Citizen’s Charter and develop a phased implementation plan, and ensure that the most pressing concerns raised by citizens are addressed promptly and effectively.
3. Stakeholder Engagement: Foster collaboration with community leaders, development partners, projects, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure a holistic and inclusive approach. Conduct regular town hall meetings to directly engage with citizens and gather insights on their needs and expectations.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement a robust monitoring and evaluation system to assess the impact of programs outlined in the Citizen’s Charter. Make data-driven decisions to continually improve the effectiveness of initiatives.
5. Budget Allocation: Allocate resources in line with the priorities outlined in the Citizen’s Charter, demonstrating a commitment to fulfilling the promises made during the election campaign and in the blueprint. Ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability in the utilization of public funds.
6. Timely Execution: Set clear timelines for the execution of projects and initiatives mentioned in the Citizen’s Charter. Regularly update the public on the progress and challenges encountered in meeting these timelines.
7. Accountability Mechanisms: Establish mechanisms for holding public officials accountable for the implementation of programs outlined in the Citizen’s Charter. Emphasize transparency and integrity in all aspects of governance.
The successful implementation of the Citizen’s Charter of Demands will not only fulfil your electoral promises but also reinforce public trust in the government. I believe that your commitment to these principles will contribute significantly to the overall development and prosperity of Kano State.
