Akwa Ibom threatens to demote defaulting principals, sack teachers

The Akwa Ibom State Government has threatened to demote principals and sack teachers found to abandon their duty posts.

Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board, Ekaette Okon, said the government had discovered laxities in public schools during the monitoring exercises designed to evaluate teachers’ performances and check academic records.

Okon said many secondary school teachers posted to rural areas in the state abandoned their duty posts for as long as one year to engage in farming and trading activities, while still getting their monthly salaries from the government.
