The Nigerian Commodity Exchange (NCX) in collaboration with Sandstone Associated Limited has organized capacity-building training for over 100 farmers, agro-processors, and other market actors on agricultural commodity trading and warehouse management in Kano State.

The one-day training which took place at the office of NCX in Kano was designed to equip the participants on the new system of advertising and selling farm produce to reduce loss and attract more profit.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director (MD) of NCX, Mrs. Zaheera Baba-Ari, said the training was embarked on by NCX across the country to ensure that farmers, processors, and marketers embraced a new system of marketing their products to meet global standards.

According to her, the system will also give farmers the chance to store their produce with NCX without fear of losses and sell at their convenience.

She said, “With this, farmers will no longer have fear of where to keep, sell or buy farm produce. Everything will remain with the agency. The owners will monitor how the prices are going in the market and will sell whenever they feel it suits them.”

Represented by the General Manager (GM), Operations of NCX, Mr. Benson O. Lawal, the MD said it was in line with the directives of President Muhammadu Buhari to regulate the prices of commodities that they decided to draw farmers’ attention to the system.

She added that the agricultural commodity operations had brought about rapid development among farmers and created job opportunities for many Nigerians, urging that people should embrace the system as it remained the future of commodity exchange in the world.

Also speaking, the head of the Kano office of NCX, Sabiu Hamza Dalawa, said the trainees were drawn from producers, merchants, processors, and commodity brokers that registered with NCX to ensure that all segments were included.

On his part, the Kano State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Barr Ibrahim Mukhtar, urged the participants to utilize the opportunities and ensure that all the key players in the farming sector had joined agricultural commodity trading to have better profits.
