Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Suleiman Baba Namallam has sentenced one Usman Usman, 50, of Hotoro Walawai in Nassarawa LGA to 14 years imprisonment without option of fine for raping a minor.
Justice Namallam also ordered that the convict compensates the victim with the sum of N200,000 in addition to the sum of N100,000 compulsory fine.
Usman, was first arraigned in court sometime in April 2016, for the offence of rape against a 13-year-old girl, (name withheld).
The offence is contrary to Section 283 of the penal code.
He pleaded not guilty earlier when he was arraigned.
To prove his case, the Kano State counsel, Barrister Wada Ahmad Wada, (Principal State Counsel) called four witnesses, who testified against the convict and similarly tendered three exhibits.
While on the other side, Usman entered his defense and closed without calling any witnesses.
In its judgement, the court upheld that the prosecution led credible evidence which linked the convict with the offence as charged
Justice Suleiman Namallam further said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and found the defendant guilty of the offence of rape as charged.
