NIREC wants killing of Kano pastor investigated

The Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) under the leadership of the co-chairmen, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III and the President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Dr Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, has condemned the recent killing of Pastor Shuaibu Yohanna in Kano State.

The council appealed to the Kano State Police Command “to honestly do the needful and for all relevant security agencies to properly investigate the murder and ensure that those found culpable are made to face justice.”

Pastor Yohanna, who was also the chairperson of CAN in Sumaila Council Area, was attacked by a mob in Masu, Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State after he was accused of hiding a murder suspect in his house.

The NIREC said it was saddened by the killing of Pastor Yohanna by some irate youths of Masu community where he had lived and pastored the New Life for All Nations Church for about 10 years.

“NIREC appreciates the leadership of Kano State branch of CAN and the Assistant Coordinator, CAN, Sumaila LGA for being proactive in visiting Masu to manage and prevent further conflicts and reprisal.”
