Okada riders’ registration will curb criminality in Ogun’

Ogun State government has said the ongoing registration of commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders is meant to combat the spate of criminality in the state.

The government noted that the registration is also necessitated following the influx of motorcyclists into the state.

Speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta, the Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Inter-Ethnic Affairs, Hadi Sanni, said motorcyclists’ operation has posed a lot of threat to security of the country hence the need to sanitise the business.

He revealed that the registration is also to have database of all motorcyclists in the state, revealing that the scheme is not a threat to them.

Hadi said in some states, their operations have been banned due to the high criminal tendencies in the business. 

On the unity of the country, he said the peace and oneness of the country is not negotiable, and urged all Nigerians to continue push for unity. 

Hadi also expressed confidence that members of the Hausa community, as law-abiding citizens, would fully participate in the registration.

The police command and three unions in charge of motorcyclists operation in the state at a meeting agreed to setup the  Commercial Motorcycle Riders Identification Scheme (COMORIS) to sanitise the profession.

The government slated October as deadline for the enforcement of the directive.
