NITI gets new excos in Kano

The Nigerian Institute of Translators and Interpreters (NITI) has inaugurated new executive members in Kano state.

A statement by the Publicity Secretary of the institute in the state, Abubakar Muhammad Musa, on Sunday said the inauguration came at the end of the International Translation Day (ITD) organised in Kano over the weekend.

Earlier, a three-member committee led by the NITI national President, Prof. Hafizu Miko Yakasai, Publicity Secretary, Mustapha Adamu Indabawa and Associate Professor Isa Yusuf Chamo HOD Linguistics and Foreign Languages, Bayero University, Kano to coordinate the formation and inauguration of the state council of the institute.

“Accordingly, Mustapha Adamu Indabawa was unanimously selected as the state Chairman, Muhammad Sagir Abdullahi as Vice Chairman I, Dr. Halima Umar Sani as Vice Chairman II, Yagana Ali as Vice Chairman III, while Abubakar Muhammad Musa (Saraki) was elected as Publicity Secretary,” reads part of the statement.

Similarly, Nadiya Muftahu Garba was elected Treasurer, Dr. Isa Muhammad Inuwa as Secretary General while Ibrahim Is’haq Rano is the new Assistant Secretary General of the institute.

Others include Prof. Mustapha Ahmad Isa, the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano (YUMSUK) and Dr. Aminu Bello Muhammad, Registrar Kano University of Technology, Wudil as ex-Officios.

NITI also formed two special committees that would handle ITD organisation at state council level and Trainings for members.

Daily Trust reports that the theme of this year’s ITD,  “United in Translation” brought together professionals from different states in the country, comprising university dons, academics, professional translators, other interested members of the public and media practitioners.

Members of the institute at the meeting also agreed that more professional trainings and capacity building workshops on translation should be conducted, thus NITI should be collaborating with state councils in organising trainings, seminars and workshops at certain intervals.
