The Presidential Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy (PACPM) has reconvened the applications for pardon by 320 inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami said this in Abuja yesterday during the opening of the meeting of the committee.

He said since the COVID-19 pandemic, his office and that of the committee had been inundated with a myriad of requests for the grant of the presidential pardon and clemency.

“You’re to look into these applications and advice as appropriate based on facts. You’re to carry out your assignment objectively in the public interest and the interest of justice,” he said.

The Minister of Special Duties, George Akume, said the committee was inaugurated to grant pardons to deserving inmates and ex-convicts, reintegrate them into society and work towards decongesting the correctional centres nationwide.
