3 jailed for internet fraud

The Federal High Court, Ibadan, jailed three internet fraudsters for eight and six months on Monday.

Convicted in the suit filed by the Ibadan zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are Sodiq Oluasegun Adefila, Anifowoshe Babamide and Raqeed Salaudeen Segun.

While Adefila was convicted of impersonation and sentenced to eight months jail term by Justice Patricia Ajoku; Babamide and Segun were convicted of impersonation and sentenced to six months imprisonment each by Justice Uche Agomoh, also of the Federal High Court, Ibadan.

They all pleaded guilty to their respective one-count amended charge for the offence which contravenes Section 22 (2) (b) (i) of Cybercrimes Prohibition, Prevention Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (2) (b) (IV) of the same Act.

Apart from the jail term, the judge ordered the convicts to restitute $285, $160 and N6,000 to their victims respectively. Their gadgets were also forfeited to the FGN.
