The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have commenced discussions on partnership that will unlock economic opportunities relating to weather forecasts.
Already both parties are committed to a committee that will craft the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding.

A document seen by our correspondent exclusively shows that both agencies are committed to generating revenue on weather formats from ocean going vessels which was hitherto controlled by foreign meteorological agencies.
The document shows that the proposed collaboration will be mutually beneficial to both agencies.
It also noted that “the collaboration is also in fulfilment of obligations to the international community for safe operation of aircrafts, ocean-going vessels, and oil rigs.”
It will also be a fulfilment of NiMet’s statutory functions through World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery and development of revenue stream meteorology for climate and human activities.
The document also showed that the collaboration will support capacity building, and boost infrastructural development.
